This was my first travel experience with Doc's Irish Tours, however my fourth to Scotland/Ireland, all golf-centric trips with friends.
The trip was good- but there were numerous items which indicated that someone wasn't paying close attention to details. The trip got off to a rocky start on our arrival into St. Andrews following our first round of golf. Our group's itinerary indicated 4 persons staying in address A, 4 persons staying in address B about one block from each other. On arrival at close to 10 PM at night, Flat A had no entry instructions. Flat B had entry instructions- but were inaccurate. Turns out Flat B was occupied by someone else, and group B was in an entirely different flat on a different street. Not a small detail to get wrong. Flat A was a 3 BR/2 Bath, which was not suitable for a foursome of golfers for a week. The living room was the only place to store our golf gear, which meant no space in the flat for socializing.
Not all of our golf courses had correct player information, despite this being shared with the tour operator. Our golf itinerary showed we were not on the Old Course Ballot for one particular day, but we were entered, which meant some of our players did not play Carnoustie and had to pay additional $ to play the Old Course. For an 'expert' on the local scene- we were never told that our trip fell over the University's move-in dates. This meant the best restaurants were booked and we were often scrambling to find any place that could accommodate our party of 8. The golf was exceptional- but it's Scotland. We knew the golf would be good.
